A large team of scientists and medical doctors will present research findings linking extreme temperature changes and air pollution to mortality rates measured in Canada, at the Global Warming International Conference in San Francisco on April 20 – 22, 2004.

Preliminary findings indicate that under increasing changes in climate, where extreme weather changes will become the norm, and combined with air pollution, mortality rates would increase in the summer and decrease in winter due to expected rise in temperatures.

These findings are the results of detailed analysis conducted by scientists from the Department of Medicine, McMaster University, Public Health Department of Toronto, and Meteorological Service of Canada. The research is based on a statistical model to evaluate global warming and pollutant effects for both cold and warm seasons, correlated to air pollution concentrations in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Windsor, over the period of 1953 – 2002.

About Global Warming International Center (GWIC):
The Global Warming International Center (GWIC) is a non-profit organization of scientists, policy makers, and scholars, whose goal is to drive innovative policy development and scientific research on global warming science. With members in more than 145 countries, the GWIC sponsors unbiased research supporting the understanding and mitigation of global warming.

GWIC sponsors the annual Global Warming International Conference & Expo, and the Executive Workshop on Industry Technology and Greenhouse Gas Emission. GWIC also publishes the World Resource Review, a journal providing critical reviews of scientific and policy activities in environment and development.
